About Vickie

If I had to describe myself with one word, that word would be LEARNER!!!!

Vickie with Atticus and Ziggy. Her third dog Ollie was feeling a little camera shy this

My three favorite things in the universe (after family and friends of course) are music, art and literature – with equal importance.  I began reading and playing the piano at age  five (that was a busy year for me I guess). Both have stayed with me, I begin EVERY day with a book and a bath. I recently rediscovered my love of music and currently play the piano for residents of memory care facilities.  See, I am the daughter and grand-daughter of piano tuners, everyone in my family played an instrument or sang.

I have always been interested in the visual arts, but didn’t seriously pick up a paint brush until I was an adult. But when I did, I found what seemed to be missing! I haven’t looked back.

I am married to a wonderful professional photographer and teacher, Joel Conison and we live with our three dogs in Decatur, Georgia.

  • I once gave historical tours in Atlanta  – one was the Driving Miss Daisy tour, which was the neighborhood where the movie was filmed – Druid Hills, and the other was The Fox Theater – one of only a few atmospheric theaters still in existence in the United States.
  • I’ve described myself as a symphony going recovering punk rocker (I named my dog Ziggy in honor of David Bowie). I even once found myself sharing a table with Syd and Nancy.
  • I have worked on over 15 homes for Habitat for Humanity, three of which were built totally by women!  I got pretty good at putting in base molding!
  • What is my favorite book? Hard to say, but I did adopt a dog named Atticus.
  • I saw every David Bowie concert that came to Atlanta after 1973!
  • But, my favorite all-time piece of music is Rhapsody in Blue.
  • I graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens. I don’t say this because I am a big BULLDOG fan, but I am a fan of Athens music, beginning with the B-52’s
  • I will NEVER turn down Mexican food!
