As painful as it is to admit, I need help! My studio and my office at home are just out of control. So, I signed up to take a class from Alyson Stanfield, The Art Biz Coach. Organize Your Art Biz which started yesterday.
The first thing I am doing is making an assessment. I just keep pulling things out and I’m not putting anything up. Somewhere along the way, I lost the place where so much STUFF belongs! So – as embarassing as it is – here are some pictures of my studio today.
This table is 4×8 feet. This is the first thing I’m going to do, clean this off and put everything on the top where it belongs. I don’t want to keep shuffling things around!
The next thing to do is organize my paper and collage material. Because the collage material has gotten so disorganized, it is piling up EVERYWHERE!!!! It was so organized at one time! Honestly!!!!
Here is a long shot of my studio. Trash trash trash. It is time to clean this out and up!!!!!!
Here is my shelf with gunpowder (yes, I do use gunpowder in my work). There is something symbolic about having these bottles, but I’m not going to give in and just blow the whole room up just yet!
Small steps – a little every day. I will post pictures when I feel I’ve made progress. And, then I’ll start on my desk!!!!!
I totally get how studio space gets disorganized – when you’re in a creative frenzy mess just happens. And I’m pretty sure we’d all agree creating is a lot more fun than cleaning up. But yay you for undertaking the make-my-space-wonderfully-supportive-and-lovely-again task. How great that will feel with fresh energy I’m sure. And how fun to be doing this project in conjunction with a group of other artists! I look forward to following your progress, and will let you be an inspiration to me.
thank you for the support!!!! if I put it out there, I’m accountable for it!!!!!
It’s ironic. We often think that being organized stifles creativity because it seems all structury (yes, that’s a word :)). But . . . decluttering and getting organized actually stimulates and enlivens creativity, so it’s awesome that you’re doing this!
Entropy happens! I have the same issue with my photography studio – every so often I just need to take time out to clear the clutter and organize the space. It always feels so good when I walk in to the space after I organize it – like something good waiting to happen.
I agree with you all!!! it is quite cathartic – I think then I’m done with the office and studio – maybe the cookbooks and recipes are next!
I see a lot of fun in that room and wouldn’t know where to begin LOL. Hoping you find even more inspiration hidden through your process of organizing! Good luck!
